FA Board Members Duties

PCCFA Board Positions and Responsibilities

All officers are required to commit approximately eight to ten hours per week to fulfill PCCFA duties. These include but are not limited to:

  1. Mandatory attendance at all PCCFA Membership, Executive Board, and Negotiations meetings.
  2. Mandatory participation in Negotiations, Grievance, Newsletter, and/or College wide committees (including, but not limited to, Calendar, Enrollment Management, Budget and Resource Allocation, Planning and Priorities, Managerial hiring, and Ad Hoc)
  3. PCCFA officer sareexpected to attend (as often as possible) meetings for the PCCBoard of Trustees, the Academic Senate, and/or Curriculum and Instruction.
  4. PCCFA Officers are expected to communicate often with their respective Divisions on faculty union matters, and to report to the Leadership Board on issues and concerns of faculty.
  5. Because of busy academic schedules, PCCFA Officers are often required to meet on Fridays and occasionally Saturdays and throughout the Summer months. Officers are strongly encouraged to attend all local (Los Angeles area) meetings for the following organizations: California Community Colleges Independents (CCCI), Faculty Association of California Community Colleges (FACCC), and the Southern California Faculty Alliance (SFA).

Respective Duties of Board Positions

President:

  • To preside over all meetings of the PCC Faculty Association including General Membership, Executive Board, and Negotiations meetings.
  • Attend all meetings – Biweekly FA Board Meetings, Monthly General Membership Meetings, biweekly Negotiations meetings, once a Semester Saturday Part-Time Conference at PCC as well as Emergency Meetings regarding specific issues.
  • Official spokesperson of the Faculty Association
  • Serve on Negotiations Team- requires preparation meetings, emergency meetings withthe President of the college and/or District Negotiators (often times negotiations take place throughout summer months)
  • Oversee all grievances- schedule meetings with grieving party, meetings with District, and often meeting with legal counsel. Follow-up on progress of resolution.
  • Maintain continuous contact and dialogue with PCCFA Legal Representatives
  • Participate in recruitment of Board of Trustees Candidates and in Board of TrusteesElections (annual election season June-November of election year)
  • Communicate with the constituent groups on campus, all faculty divisions, all campus unions, the administration, and off-campus communities
  • Familiarity with the governance documents of the Faculty Association
  • Appoint all chairpersons and members of committees, and the bargaining team with the approval of the Executive Board
  • Contribute monthly article(s) to the PCCFA Newsletter
  • To suggest policies, plans and activities for the Faculty Association, and to be held responsible for the progress and work of the Association

Vice President:

  • Attend all meetings – Biweekly FA Board Meetings, Monthly General Membership Meetings, once a Semester Saturday Part-Time Conference at PCC as well as Emergency Meetings regarding specific issues
  • Serve on Negotiations Team- requires preparation meetings, emergency meetings with the President of the college and/or District Negotiators (often times negotiations take place throughout summer months)
  • Oversee all grievances- schedule meetings with grieving party, meetings with District, and often meeting with legal counsel. Follow-up on progress of resolution.
  • Participate in recruitment of Board of Trustees Candidates and in Board of Trustees Elections (annual election season June-November of election year)
  • Communicate with the constituent groups on campus, the administration, and off-campus communities
  • Responsible as co-signer of all checks
  • Contribute monthly article(s) to the PCCFA Newsletter
  • Stand in as PCCFA President if the president is absent.

Treasurer:

  • Attend all meetings – Biweekly FA Board Meetings, Monthly General Membership Meetings, once a Semester Saturday Part-Time Conference at PCC as well as Emergency Meetings regarding specific issues
  • Meet with FA Accountant and Legal Advisers monthly (weekly during tax season)
  • Develop the annual PCCFA Budget
  • Oversee all banking and accounting of PCCFA- includes picking up monthly membership dues from Fiscal Services and Depositing Checks at the Credit Union, co- signer on all checks and financial forms; must know basic bookkeeping including knowledge of Quick Books; tracking of all invoices and receipts; reconciliation of all accounts and ability to file necessary reports with the County, State, and Federal Tax Agencies; issue 1099s forms to all stipend workers of the FA
  • Preparation of Annual Hudson Notice to fee payers- includes communications with FA Accountant and Legal Counsel
  • Must be willing to testify in a courtroom if called upon by grieving parties
  • Sit on the college wide Budget and Resource Allocation Committee – Currently meets bimonthly on Friday afternoons
  • Participate in recruitment of Board of Trustees Candidates and in Board of Trustees Elections (annual election season June-November of election year)

Secretary:

  • Attend all meetings – Biweekly FA Board Meetings, Monthly General Membership Meetings, biweekly Negotiations meetings, once a Semester Saturday Part-Time Conference at PCC as well as Emergency Meetings regarding specific issues.
  • Recruitment of new PCCFA members and organizing and coordinating membership drives
  • Serve on Negotiations Team- requires preparation meetings, emergency meetings with the President of the college and/or District Negotiators (often times negotiations take place throughout summer months)
  • Contribute monthly article(s) to the PCCFA Newsletter
  • Record and format minutes for Executive Board meetings and distribution thereof to Executive Board for revision and approval.
  •  Assist in the compilation of reports
  • Chair PCCFA Election Committee, which includes drafting of election guidelines, compiling candidate statements, distribution of ballots, and presiding over ballot counting.

Director: 

  • Attend all meetings – Biweekly FA Board Meetings, Monthly General Membership Meetings, once a Semester Saturday Part-Time Conference at PCC as well as Emergency Meetings regarding specific issues
  • Participate on Negotiations Team- Meet (weekly or daily during Negotiations to advise and strategize contract negotiations with District)
  • Assist when necessary in the Grievance Process
  • Contribute to the PCCFA Newsletter
  • Participate in recruitment of Board of Trustees Candidates and in Board of Trustees Elections (annual election season June-November of election year)
